*Elious has also been known as Enic Elias. There has been some confusion over which is first name and which is middle. I go with this version for two reasons: Census records used "Elias", and his Toombstone used Elious as first name.
The Gildons were Texans since the 1840's. This family's history in Texas is interesting alone, and I hope to include more later. Elious came to Arkansas sometime between 1901-1909.
The Clan
L to R Back row: Mamie, Alpha (my GreatGrandmother), Thelma Gildon Shaver, Dina Ellen Newsome (dau of Elias' 2nd wife, Willie), Charley (girl on end)
L to R Sitting: Elias, Rhubert (baby, my grandfather), Willie Newsome Gildon (Elias' 2nd wife), Omega Elias Gildon (holding his daughter Idell), Willie Cleo Reed Gildon
The above ID came from Terry Gildon.
Anecdote: According to my grandmother, Idell Gildon pretty much saved the lives of her and my father. Mary had a difficult pregnancy and was fairly incapacitated after my father was born. They lived in a small wooden house on the Red River levy, and there were few people around to take care of her, but Idell came every day and nursed them both to eventual health.
